Certificates with less than five years duration
Digital certificates issued since 11 July 2011 have less than five years duration due to operational constraints.
The current Medicare Australia PKI was established in 2006 and the current Organisation Certification Authority (OCA) will expire in 2016. The end-user digital certificates cannot be issued beyond the OCA expiry date. As a result, certificates are being issued with less than five years duration. The Department of Human Services (Human Services) is in the process of renewing the OCA which will be valid until 2022. As soon as this OCA is in production, Human Services will start issuing certificates with five years duration.
