July 2010 - How do I obtain my Medicare statistics?
Optometrists can order a Rendered items report from Medicare Australia. This report shows the total number of services you have claimed from the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and the following information about your practice:
- total number of distinct patients
- average number of services per patient
- a breakdown of the number of services rendered for each MBS item number used
- total amount of MBS benefits paid.
Data from the most recent 12 month period can be requested.
You can request your Rendered items report by mail. This letter must include your provider number and signature.

The Rendered items report does not show how your Medicare data compares to other optometrists, however you can obtain comparative information by going to the Medicare Australia website. You will be able to access provider percentile charts where you can compare your billing data to that of your peers.
