Provider Strategy 2008-2011

Medicare Australia's Provider Strategy at a glance 2008–2011 [PDF, 590Kb]PDF reader required summarises our approach to more effective and efficient service delivery.

Following stakeholder consultation and research, the Provider Strategy was established to understand and respond to provider expectations and needs in an increasingly electronic business environment. Its aim is to improve the way we do business with providers by making it easier, less intrusive and more efficient.

As a platform for enhancing the constantly evolving working relationships between Medicare Australia and providers, the strategy places providers at the centre of our strategic thinking and business development processes.

The Provider Strategy sets out a comprehensive three year plan of new or improved services and initiatives, and serves as a high level framework for future planning of provider service improvements across Medicare Australia. It communicates mutually agreed priorities and activities from a provider and Medicare Australia perspective.

In developing the strategy, our research found five distinct themes that providers would like Medicare Australia to target.

  1. Reduce red tape by streamlining processes.
  2. Better support and compliance through education.
  3. Access to real time support and reference tools.
  4. Improve partnerships and relationships.
  5. Enhance communications.

During 2008–2011, the Provider Strategy will be reviewed at least annually to make sure it continues to meet the current and changing needs of providers. A progress report is available on the Provider Strategy year one commitments.
