Prescription Shopping Information Program Introduction
The Prescription Shopping Information Service is administered by the Prescription Shopping Program.
Medicare Australia is working to identify patients who are getting PBS medicines in excess of medical need.
Online PBS Patient Summary reports about patients of concern are now available to doctors registered with the Information Service.
The online service will allow you to view or download patient information within minutes of you making a call to the information service and your patient being identified under the Prescription Shopping Program criteria.
Go to the HPOS home page (www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/hpos) and logon using your individual PKI certificate
The HPOS Terms and Conditions of Use and Access will appear. Select I agree to proceed.

If you select I decline an error message at the top of the page will read ‘In order to access HPOS you need to select ‘I Agree’ to the Terms & Conditions’.
Select Prescription Shopping Information Program from the Main menu (on the left hand side of the page).

There are three options in the drop down menu:
Prescription Shopping Information: This screen contains general information about the program and a link to a PDF form to apply to register as part of the program.
Prescription Shopping Patient Summary reports: Contains the list of summary reports sent to you via the Prescription Shopping Program.
Prescription Shopping FAQs: Contains frequently asked questions regarding the prescription shopping program.
