Healthcare Identifiers (HI) Service online user guide
HI Service introduction
Using your PKI individual certificate, healthcare providers, responsible officers (also known as public officers) and organisation maintenance officers (also known as organisation maintenance roles) can view Healthcare Identifier information for organisations.
Go to the HPOS homepage (www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/hpos) and logon using your PKI certificate.

The HPOS Terms and Conditions of Use and Access will appear. Select I agree to proceed.

If you select I decline an error message at the top of the page will read 'In order to access HPOS you need to select 'I Agree' to the Terms & Conditions'.
The Where are you? page will display. Choose which health care provider organisation you are currently accessing the HI Service on behalf of.

The HI homepage will display.

Depending on your HI roles, a combination of the following functions will be available:
Healthcare provider
- My details
- Search HI provider directory service entry for organisation
- Search HI provider directory service entry for an individual provider
Organisation Maintenance Officer (OMO)
- My organisation details
- View network map
- My OMO details
- Search HI provider directory service entry for organisation
- Search HI provider directory service entry for an individual provider
- Send the Authorised Employee Register to the HI Service through the HPOS secure email facility
Responsible Officer
- My organisation details
- View network map
- My Responsible Officer details
- Search HI provider directory service entry for organisation
- Search HI provider directory service entry for an individual provider
Commonly used acronyms used throughout the HI services are:
