Service delivery

Customer service is our top priority. We offer our services via a range of methods to maximise access to our services.

Medicare office claiming

Medicare Australia's network of 238 Medicare offices throughout Australia is supported by a national computing and communications infrastructure. All Medicare offices provide a full range of Medicare services which include processing of enrolments and registrations, and cash, cheque and electronic funds transfer (EFT) payments. They also accept lodgment of participating health fund claims under Medicare two-way arrangements, and process claims for the Federal Government 30% Health Insurance Rebate and benefits for the PBS. Medicare offices also provide Family Assistance Office services.

Medicare Australia access points

This initiative provides an alternative Medicare claiming option for people living in rural and remote areas around Australia who do not have direct access to Medicare offices.

An Australia-wide network of self-service Medicare Australia Access Points have been installed in more than 1,000 rural and country townships. To find the address and location of your nearest Medicare claiming outlet.

Medicare mail claiming

Medicare claims can be made by posting the claim form and account or receipt to Medicare Australia. Completed claim forms can be sent by mail, together with the original accounts/receipts, to Medicare, GPO Box 9822 in your capital city (do not send your Medicare card when you claim by mail). You will then receive a cheque by mail or payment direct into your financial institution account via electronic funds transfer (EFT) if the account has been paid.

Claim forms can be downloaded from our forms section.

Two-way lodgment of Medicare claims

Medicare two-way is an Australian Government initiative that allows Medicare to collect private health fund claims, and private health funds to collect Medicare claims related to in-hospital services.

If your private health fund participates in the Medicare two-way program, you have the convenience of being able to lodge your health fund claims at any Medicare office or if you wish, being able to lodge your Medicare claims at your health fund office.

More information and a list of health care fund that offer this service are available on this site.
