Our purpose
Our purpose is clear: to improve Australia's health through payments and information.
Our vision
Our customers trust us to make payments efficiently and to produce accurate and reliable information when it is needed for health decision making. Medicare Australia is helping to connect Australia's health sector, and is contributing to the shift towards patient-centred care. The organisation is developing its capacity for electronic communication, facilitating information exchange through partnerships and communication systems, developing standards for the exchange of information, and resolving issues such as the maintenance of privacy and security and the authentication of electronic transactions.
An important role for Medicare Australia in administering health programs is taking aggregated health data and using it to develop health information products that can be used to improve the health of the Australian community. Medicare Australia aims to provide direct access to customised health information products and services. Our goal is to ensure health information can be accessed when and where it is needed to improve health outcomes. In this area, the privacy of our customers' personal information is paramount.
