Medicare Australia is looking for Indigenous people to join our workforce. We offer a range of jobs from traineeships to the graduate program and administration to executive positions.
We encourage all staff to contribute and learn from each other. We are currently implementing the Indigenous Employment and Retention Strategy to develop and promote activities to increase employment and understanding of Indigenous cultures.

Commitments to Indigenous health and employment
We promise to deliver great service to all Australians and we are working with Indigenous communities and health care providers to improve access to our services. One way we are working towards this is through our Indigenous Access Program. [PDF, 117Kb]
The Indigenous Access Program (IAP), established in 2000, improves Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples access to our programs and services. The IAP supports health service providers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to use these programs, and ultimately improve health outcomes.
The Australian Government has implemented a range of health measures for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We administer some of these programs including health assessments (55 years and over) and the adult health checks.
The IAP team provide cultural advice when initiatives and policies relating to Indigenous service delivery are developed. This includes the management and coordination of activities of the national network of Medicare Liaison Officers for Indigenous Access and development of the Indigenous Employment and Retention Strategy [PDF, 126Kb].
